The band have chosen to premiere their new album at The Met in Bury (Greater Manchester) with a special concert to launching a new chapter in their long career.

Says Robert John Godfrey: “I did not expect to still be alive but here I am!”

Band Line up for the Met

Jason Ducker – Gtr & Vocals: Jason Ducker became the band’s permanent guitarist in 2007 and has appeared on every album and in every live performance since.

Robert John Godfrey – Keys & Vocals:  Robert John Godfrey founded The Enid in 1973 whilst signed to Charisma Records. His previous work with progressive music giants, Barclay James Harvest coupled with formal training as a concert pianist at the Royal College of Music set the scene for this charismatic maverick composer’s adult life.

Tristan Mitchard – Keys, Pedals & Vocals: Tristan Mitchard originally trained as an organist and has a music degree from Oxford University. His twin passions are The Enid alongside his existing career as a pop singer-songwriter. He has been friends with the band for some years and it is intended that he will become a permanent member.

Dave Storey - Drums & Percussion: Dave Storey originally joined The Enid in 1974 as a non-permanent member. He has appeared on various recordings and toured extensively with the band since that time.

Nic Willes – Percussion, Bass and Vocals: Nic Willes has featured in many live appearances with The Enid since 2009.

On August 6th, 2017, fans flocked from around the world to celebrate the 70th birthday of The Enid’s legendary founder, Robert John Godfrey, held in Union Chapel, one of London’s most famous and hallowed live venues. The stained glass windows of the Chapel provided the perfect backdrop to the music of “one of the greatest composers this country has ever produced,” (Tommy Vance, on Radio 1’s Friday Rock Show)

RJG 70th front cover 1500 x 1500

The setlist was chosen by Robert John Godfrey, and featured many of his favourite songs and instrumental compositions from The Enid’s catalogue, spanning five decades; some of which had not been performed live in over thirty years.

RJG also treated his audience, or “fellow travellers”, as he addressed from the stage to a solo performance of his much-anticipated forthcoming album, HOMILY, from which he performed an excerpt during this show which is included exclusively on this album.

Backed by the next generation of Enid musicians, this is the sound of a reinvigorated Robert John Godfrey. The trio of lead guitarist Jason Ducker, keyboardist Zachary Bullock and drummer Dominic Tofield play with great subtlety and dexterity throughout.

With the show at the Citadel fast approaching, we are making a final call to try and persuade you that you don't want to miss this one-off performance. The reality of the situation is that when the gig was originally booked we had a full outfit with Dom, however, since his departure we were left with a situation of either cancelling the show or pulling something special together.

As you know we have decided to go ahead with the show, and thus have put a lot of time into creating a very special unique set for you, featuring many tracks from the back catalogue that haven't been heard live for years.

This will be your last chance to see the band perform this year and the only chance to see some of these tracks performed live with RJG. We are however in a rather sticky situation financially and if we don't get a good turnout this Saturday we will really be up against it.

Jason and I are planning to write and record a new album when we get back from the gig, much of which we have already made a start on, however, we will be forced to spend more time pursuing other sources of income rather than spending the time needed to produce a new album.

We know it has been a long time coming for you and ourselves to hear something completely new and fresh, and we really hope we can deliver, but a lot of it is riding on this gig being a success. Therefore we are making one last plea to you to come along to the show, or if you already have a ticket or can't make it, to tell your friends and family.

We promise you won't be disappointed.

Thank you for all your support over the years, we're looking forward to what the future holds.

All the best,

Enidi Firebird 800x565DOMINIC TOFIELD

Dom is leaving the band to teach drumming at a school in Tamil Nadu, Southern India. He leaves as a good friend. Without his drive and enthusiasm, the band would not have got to where they are today. He leaves us with an enigmatic and highly symbolic drawing as a parting gift.

Dom’s Vision

Zach and Jason inside an egg. The Enidi curled up into a nest. A Phoenix bird providing the history, protection, and inspiration. All set against the image the uncertain tomorrow in which the egg will hatch. (Click the picture to see full size.)

Resurgency was what it was. A therapy to repair and restore the spirit of The Enid. A vehicle of self-discovery.

Zach and Jason have formed a strong musical friendship and are in for the long haul. They really want to re-explore the best of the band’s output from the last four decades and bring it to the generations who have never heard of any of it.

New music will come in its own time. RJG will continue to lend a guiding hand to Jason and Zach. Next week the three of them are off to Ant’s House in East Germany to learn about things like cadences, voice leading, auxiliary chords, the tricks of modulation and how to avoid being in root position all the time.

The band’s plan is to work out the way to make live performances as dynamic and emotional as ever without the obligatory drum kit demanded of main stream rock.  There are just six weeks before the show at The Citadel in St Helens in October. RJG together with Zach and Jason will be showing you how this can happen.

We have one more very special show planned for you this year, at The Citadel, St Helens. The show will take place on Saturday 21 October, and will feature RJG, Jason, and Zach. This promises to be a truly memorable night. Tickets are £16 and available from here.

The band will be performing at The Enidi Convention to be held as usual at The Black Prince in Northampton on Sat 17th March.

Friendly Monthly Get-Togethers - Good Conversation - Curry -  Music & More

The Enid have always enjoyed a close relationship with their fans and “fellow travelers”, and this is going to continue and develop more closely than in the recent past.

Look out for RJG’s curry nights, impromptu parties, musical seminars and philosophical debate.

Operation Thursday Launches 9th Nov 8:30 pm

Full live performances may not be on the agenda for a while, but this certainly doesn’t mean that you’ll miss seeing Jason and Zach (and RJG) playing together regularly.

In fact, you’re going to be able to see them playing more often than the band has done in the past, streamed to your PC, mobile, tablet or smart-TV and sound system from the band’s rehearsal studio in Northampton.

The Green Room at The Lodge has been substantially refurbished as a performance and broadcast studio which is capable of broadcasting HD audio and video performances streamed over the internet to a combination of Facebook and specialist YouTube (and other channel sources).
